Escapee’s wife arraigned on hindering charge

The wife of a convicted child molester, who helped her husband flee prosecution in Niagara County Court earlier this year, was jailed Tuesday in Lockport.

Diane G. Turley, 51, 2 Cleveland Ave., Lilydale, was arraigned on a charge of second-degree hindering prosecution Tuesday morning.

City Judge William Watson ordered Turley jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail. Turley is returning to court this morning for a determination whether the Niagara County Public Defender’s office will provide her with legal representation.

Diane Turley is accused of helping her husband, Paul Turley, skip town in mid-January, when he was being tried on allegations he’d sexually abused two young girls in the mid- to late-1990s, in North Tonawanda. A Niagara County jury found Paul Turley guilty after he fled.

U.S. Marshals located the Turleys in Tuscon, Ariz., a month later.

Paul Turley is jailed without bail ahead of his scheduled May 10 sentencing on the sex charges.

Diane Turley was charged on a warrant sought by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office in City Court.
