'Huffer' caught after car crash

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A Gasport man was charged with several drug and traffic infractions after crashing his vehicle into a tree near the Panera Bread on South Transit Road.

Thomas J. Coleman, 19, 8451 East Ave., was charged with driving while ability impaired, acting in a manner injurious to a child under the age of 17, first-degree leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, failure to use the designated lane, reckless driving and unlawful possession of marijuana this past Saturday.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Coleman and a 16-year-old female went to Walmart on their break from working at Burger King, where Coleman bought Dust Off. Coleman admitted "huffing" the Dust Off twice while driving from Walmart to the Panera Bread parking lot, where he crashed into the tree.

On foot, Coleman and the female went back to work, where the female complained of a headache from the collision. She was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital by her mother, the sheriff's office said.

Coleman was held at Niagara County Jail in lieu of $500 bail. He is due in Lockport Town Court on May 20.
