Shotgun incident leads to five arrests

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Lockport police arrested five men following an investigation early Saturday into a shotgun being fired on LaGrange Street near John Street.

According to reports, a patrolman traveling on Genesee Street around 2:46 a.m. heard several people yelling on LaGrange. When the officer turned south onto Pine Street, a loud bang and a flash was observed from a shotgun fired.

The officer saw three people who appeared to be unarmed running from LaGrange onto Pine and heading toward Genesee Street.

Several officers arrived and began to check the area. Police obtained from witnesses a description of people believed to have been involved in the shooting. One person who fit a description was located on Harvey Street and was briefly detained before police determined he was not involved in the shooting.

However the man, Dylan Lewis, no age given, of 178 Pine St. Apt. 1, was found to be in possession of marijuana and was charged.

As police continued their investigation, two men were found on Pine Street near LaGrange. They were later identified as Antwoine M. Henry, 28, of 6548 Slayton Settlement Road and Jyrel A. Massey, 26, of 197 Pine St., Apt. 1A.

According to police, Henry and Massey were uncooperative and refused to follow multiple commands and instead continued to move aggressively toward an officer and began screaming obscenities in a loud and aggressive manner. They were both apprehended.

Another man, Nathan A. Hill, 26, 119 Genesee St. Apt. 3, was apprehended on Pine Street for screaming obscenities. Willie B. Sanders, 24, 119 Genesee St. Apt. 1 was also taken into custody at his residence.

Sanders told police that a man unknown to him fired a shotgun at him on LaGrange Street, striking him in the hand. Sanders had an injury to his hand consistent with bird shot.

Police searched the area for a weapon but they did not find one. The investigation continues, but it's unclear who fired the shotgun.

Sanders, Massey and Henry all face charges of obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. Massey and Henry face an additional charge of disorderly conduct. Hill was only charged with disorderly conduct.
