Shooting victim avoids questions

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —

The man who suffered a gunshot wound — or wounds — at 12:20 a.m. Monday on Transit Street has been discharged from Erie County Medical Center, but has been reportedly uncooperative with police.

Raymond T. Johnson, 31, reported he was shot at his home at 143 South Transit. He went to the nearby 7-Eleven at Transit and High streets for help and was transported Erie County Medical Center via Mercy Flight.

The police report said Johnson was shot several times, but police have not received medical records and do not know the extent of his injuries.

"He said he was shot by intruders," said Det. Capt. Richard L. Podgers, the chief of detectives. "He's not ready to talk to us in detail. The investigation will continue and we expect cooperation."

Detectives talked to Johnson in the hospital and Johnson went to Lockport Police headquarters on Tuesday. "He was pretty non-cooperative, refusing to talk," Chief Larry Eggert said. "He didn't show us anything ... the stories change."

Police may subpoena medical records from the hospital. Items were found in Johnson's apartment and police are consulting with district attorney's office as to potentially charging Johnson.
