Day Road Park cleared after report of man with gun

LOCKPORT — An East High Street man was detained by Niagara County Sheriff's deputies on Tuesday following a report of a man with a gun in Day Road Park.

Deputies responded to the park at 8:12 p.m. and began clearing the park from the east side of the park and moved westbound through the playground.

They found a man itting the description and ordered him to turn around and put his hands on his head.

The man, who was not charged, said that a black gun sitting on a table belonged to him and that his son brought the black airsoft gun to the park and he was just looking at it.

Patrol released the man a short time later with a verbal warning regarding bringing any type of weapon to a playground or public area.

The man apologized to deputies and said that in hindsight he realized it was a bad idea and can see why someone would be concerned if they saw the gun.
