Court orders monitoring for area heroin distributor

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —

Another Lockport resident was sentenced Monday in connection with the 2010 breakup of a drug ring in Lockport, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Mark Robertson, 41, was sentenced to 3 years of supervised release with six months of electronic monitoring, after he was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, heroin.

Robertson distributed heroin in the Lockport area between July 2009 and August 2010, when the ring that stretched from eastern Niagara County to the city of Buffalo was broken up, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Catherine Baumgarten.

Investigators determined that the heroin was supplied to Robinson by Damian Ard and John Cruz.

Ard, also of Lockport, is to be sentenced Jan. 6 for conspiring to possess and distribute cocaine base. Cruz, of Buffalo, is serving a 58-month prison sentence for conspiring to possess and distribute heroin.

Twenty-four people were charged with, and 22 have been convicted of, narcotics trafficking-related offenses tied to the drug ring. The leader, Will Johnson, is serving a 10-year prison sentence, after he was found guilty of conspiring to distribute cocaine in the Buffalo area from the Houston, Texas, area, according to the U.S.A.O.

Also sentenced Monday, by U.S. District Chief Judge William M. Skretny, was Danielle Barton, 31, formerly of League City, Texas. Convicted to conspiracy to commit money laundering, for making cash deposits of about $131,000 of Will Johnson's drug proceeds into her bank account, Barton was sentenced to nine months in prison and one year of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
