Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — WHEATFIELD — A man brandishing a handgun tried to rob a gas station/convenience store Saturday evening.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, an unidentified male entered the Kwik Fill at 3945 Niagara Falls Boulevard about 7:30 p.m., pointed a small handgun at a store clerk and demanded money from the cash register.
Nothing was reported missing from the store, the sheriff's office said in a media release.
The suspect is described as being possibly white, 5-feet-5-inches tall and with a stocky build. The male word a red hoodie, dark winter hat, a dark bandanna over his face, black pants, dark gloves and dark colored boots.
The sheriff's Criminal Investigation Bureau is looking into the incident.
It's the latest in a string of armed robberies affecting mostly convenience stores in Niagara and Erie counties. Before Saturday, 15 incidents had been reported to police agencies since Dec. 24. Police believe at least some of the robberies are by the same person or people.
