Two charged with drunk driving with BAC over .2

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A Lockport woman and a Wilson man are facing drunk driving charges for reportedly having blood alcohol contents readings over .2 percent in separate incidents this week.

Patricia M. Burns-Naughton, 52, 424 High St., was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving on the shoulder and failure to keep right.

Niagara County Sheriff's Office said deputies saw Burns-Naughton backing out of a driveway on Sunset Drive in the Town of Lockport. She reportedly almost backed into the front yard, then proceeded to cross the fog line on the shoulder then the center median line multiple times.

Deputies reported smelling alcohol on Burns-Naughton, who reportedly had impaired motor coordination, slurred speech and glassy, bloodshot eyes. She admitted to having two vodka and iced teas, deputies said.

Burns-Naugton failed three field sobriety tests and refused to continue another, the arrest report said. A chemical test said her blood alcohol content was .28 percent.

She was brought to the Niagara County Jail on $250 bail and is scheduled to return Aug. 6 to Lockport Town Court.

James R. Wasik, 23, 2592 Cambria-Wilson Road, was charged Monday with felony driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Deputies were looking for a reckless driver, when a witness told them a vehicle almost hit him head on then turned on Ide Road and blew out a tire. The witness reportedly identified the driver was Wasik and he appeared intoxicated.

Wasik reportedly tried to make a U-turn then drove into a ditch. He was able to get out, then proceeded to drive all over his front yard on Cambria-Wilson Road, running over a small tree.

Deputies spoke with Wasik, who reportedly had an odor of alcohol on him and almost lost his balance while standing on the porch. Deputies could barely understand him as he spoke, due to slurred speech, the arrest report said. He also failed some field sobriety tests.
