Meth lab busted

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — NEWFANE –– Two men are facing charges after a Friday drug raid in the Town of Newfane.

Sean A. Smith, 37, and James O. White, 21, were both charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. Both charges are class B felonies.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said the two were found manufacturing methamphetamine in a house at 6437 Hope Lane, just north of Wrights Corners.

Also found during the raid was a loaded .22-caliber handgun, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

No other information was released and a phone call was not immediately returned Friday night.

Friday’s raid was the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Niagara County Drug Task Force, the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Teams, CSORT and Mobile Response Teams. Law enforcement was assisted by Wrights Corners and Miller Hose Volunteer Fire Cos.

Smith and White were arraigned Friday in Newfane Town Court and were remanded to Niagara County Jail on $25,000 bail. Both are scheduled to return Tuesday to Newfane Town Court.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said an investigation is continuing and further criminal charges are pending.
