Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A Lockport woman is accused of stealing prescription drugs from a Rite Aid drug store where she worked.
Lydia M. Klein, 43, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute prescription drugs.
According to U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr., Klein stole 14 bottles of hydrocodone while employed at the Rite Aid Pharmacy on South Transit Road.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank T. Pimentel, who is handling the case, stated that according to the complaint, video surveillance footage from the Rite Aid showed Klein stealing the bottles on Jan. 19.
Klein was later interviewed by investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration and admitted to having stolen at least 1,100 hydrocodone, sold under the brand name Lortab, and alprazolam, sold under the brand name Xanax, pills from the store and distributing the pills for sale in the Lockport area.
Klein made her initial court appearance Monday afternoon before U. S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder, Jr. She was released on bond pending further proceedings.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine.
