Admitted gas station robber is sent to prison

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A man who admitted to robbing two convenience stores in Lockport and Sanborn earlier this year was sentenced to a term in state prison Monday.

Danny P. Merritt, last known to reside on Murphy Road, received a sentence of 2 1/3 to seven years from Niagara County Judge Matthew Murphy.

Merritt was charged in connection with the May 5 robbery of the Sunoco station at Transit and Robinson roads and the June 28 robbery of the Sanborn Family Mart, Saunders Settlement Road across from Niagara County Community College.

According to police, a knife was displayed to store clerks in both robberies. Merritt was tracked down by police and was charged within a few days of each incident.
