Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A town resident who reported two bicycles stolen from his property last week recovered one of the bikes Monday, after seeing a juvenile ride the thing along Beattie Avenue.

The resident, a homeowner in the 5600 block of Jennifer Drive West, reported to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department that two Mongoose children’s bicycles were taken from his yard overnight Sept. 19-Sept. 20.

A day later, the resident recovered one of the bikes, each valued at $150, when his friend found it in a ditch along Locust Street Extension.

On Monday, he recovered the other bike by happenstance. About 4 p.m., the man told the sheriff’s department, he was driving on Beattie Avenue when he saw a youth riding a bike that looked much like his missing Mongoose. The man called police and started following the youth, the report said.

A responding state trooper stopped the youth at Beattie and Buell Drive, where the resident looked over the bike, said it was his, and produced the key that matched a lock on the bike.

The youth, a 15-year-old male who resides in the City of Lockport, said a friend, “Damion,” gave him the bike.

The

youth was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and was given a ticket to appear Oct. 4 in Town Court. The deputy, Gary May, took the boy home to his grandma, the report said.

Four homeowners reported bicycles were taken from their property by unknown persons last week, on Jeffrey Drive, Jennifer Drive East and Locust Street Extension, according to public records.

A number of unlocked vehicles were entered and valuables were removed on nearby Jennifer Drive West, O’Connor Drive and Erna Drive, as well, records indicate.
