TONAWANDA NOTEBOOK: Sally out with ankle injury

Tonawanda will be without the services of center Evan Sally tonight, as the junior suffered a high ankle sprain in last week’s T-NT Classic.

That was just one of the many injuries suffered by the Warriors in their 43-7 loss to North Tonawanda. The final score didn’t indicate just how close the game was, though, as NT led just 13-7 at halftime.

But the second half was a different story, as Tonawanda played without quarterback/running back Rob Kirkwood, fullback Tom Fasciano, offensive tackle Steve Banks and defensive backs Josh Lilly and Jose Arenas at different points of the game.

“That’s why the score became what it did,” Tonawanda coach Chuck Tilley said.

The good news, however, is all of those players will be able to go tonight, as the Warriors travel to Southwestern for a Class B consolation bowl game.

“It’s an opportunity for us to extend our season one more game,” Tilley said. “That being said, we can’t do the things we’ve done all year long, mainly turn the ball over.”

• Tonight’s game at Southwestern is the Warriors’ longest road trip of the season. Tilley said the ride will take at least two hours. When the Warriors arrive, they’ll be greeted by Trojans senior running back Tyler Scott, one of the most prolific runners in Western New York. Senior Sean Uber and sophomore Tanner Delahoy led the defensive effort for Southwestern in last week’s 41-0 victory over Eden, finishing with eight tackles each.

The Trojans (6-2) have lost just one game at Charles A. Lawson Field in the past five seasons. Since taking over as coach in 2003, Southwestern’s Jay Sirianni has gone 21-1 at home.

Against Eden, two players got time at quarterback for the Trojans, sophomore Zack Sopak and junior Dan Imfeld.
