CROSSING GUARD: Kudos to Peggy Crego, the city crossing guard that was on her game Thursday, helping police identify the car and motorist involved in a crime. The alleged abduction incident was witnessed by Crego, who took note of the description of the car. Not only did she provide police with the information she had, but she later noticed the vehicle on West Avenue. “Obviously the crossing guard was being very observant,” Mayor Michael Tucker said. “We owe her a debt of gratitude.”





COMING FORWARD: We can’t even begin to believe it was easy, but we know the outcome is well worth it. The victim or victims in the alleged Wilson assault that came forward and contacted state police may have stopped what could have ended up being a yearly tradition with many more victims over the years. Plus, other school districts all over Western New York are on watch because of the alleged incidents in Wilson. Hopefully this curtails what some are calling hazing, but obviously turned into an assault.





PAINT THE CITY PURPLE: Thursday was the kickoff to the Lockport Relay For Life with the Paint the City Purple event. Driving down Main Street almost every business was decorated with purple. Balloons, bows and even carrousel horses at First Niagara dotted windows along Main Street and East Avenue. The purple is all in honor of the Relay and the efforts to find a cure for cancer.

GAS TAX ‘HOLIDAY’: Again, don’t be fooled by what some politicians are proposing in a gas tax ‘holiday.’ The only holiday us motorists would see is if the supplier dropped the cost, not the state or county governments share of the tax. That would be all well and good, but the suppliers would need to fall in line with the drop in price for us to see any difference. What’s expected is that the local and state politicians would drop their end of the tax, but then the suppliers would bump it right back up.
