TOWN OF LOCKPORT —
Lockport senior J.J. Napoli qualified for next spring’s Section VI Golf Tournament with a fourth-place finish at Wednesday’s Niagara Frontier League Tournament at Willowbrook.
Under clear skies, Napoli, the top linkster throughout the season on head coach Dave Gilson’s Lions varsity golf team, carded an 84 to qualify for sectionals, slated for May 19 at Diamondhawk in Cheektowaga. The top seven individual finishers qualified for sectionals.
Grand Island’s Kevin Borowitz placed first overall on Wednesday with a round of 75. Napoli was the only LHS linkster to qualify for sectionals individually, but as a team, the Lions won their first NFL team title in six years.
The blue and gold finished at 244 to place first by four strokes. The runner-up Kenmore East Bulldogs finished with 288.
Napoli, sophomores Jack Igoe, Dom Morreale and Joe Quirk, junior Evan Williams and senior Patrick Sparks competed for the blue and gold. Morreale fired an 86, followed by Igoe (89), Quirk and Williams (91s) and Sparks (93).

“It was amazing winning the championship — a great feeling,” Napoli said. “We really worked hard throughout the season. We lost to Ken East once this season so we knew what we had to do to win the league. It was a great team effort today.”
