Channer, Sawyer spark track Lions over Ken West

Channer wins three events, Sawyers sets new pole record

LOCKPORT —

Led by two triple individual winners and another record-breaking performance on the pole vault from Kristen Sawyer, the Lockport High School boys and girls track teams won big over visiting Kenmore West on Thursday, topping Niagara Frontier League action.
Under gray skies at Max D. Lederer Field, the Lions improved to 3-0 in the NFL with a 100-41 win over the Blue Devils, while the Lady Lions beat the Lady Blue Devils, 116-25.
Maurice Channer and Sara Yensan earned three individual wins apiece for Lockport. Channer won the long jump (18-8), the 110 high hurdles (:16.1) and the high jump (5-6).
Alex Krest won both the shot put (43-9 and discus (111-4) for head coach Miles Patterson’s Lions.
Other individual winners for the Lions were wrestling standout Kirk Feeney (pole vault), Connor Doran (1,600), Jonah Ribbeck (triple jump), 39-10; long distance specialists Dan Jones (800) and John Britt (3,200) and making a triumphant return to the meet, Josh Beshaw (100).
In the girls’ meet, four different Lady Lions were double individual winners.
Sara Yensan won the triple jump (32-5) and the high jump (4-8) for the Lady Lions, Rachel Williams won the shot put (34-8) and discus (84-3), Abbey Lang the 1,500 (5:00.1) and the 3,000 (11:46.3); and Brittany Sanford placed first in both the long jump (15-5) and the 200 (:28.3).
Kristen Sawyer set a new Lockport Girl’s Pole Vault record with a leap of 10 feet, 9 inches. The old record was 10-6.
