Krieger hurls Lockport past visiting Lady Jacks

HS ROUNDUP (4/18/13): Lions win at NT, 16-6, improve to 2-1 in NFL Baseball.

LOCKPORT —

Sophomore southpaw Jen Krieger tossed a complete-game victory in the circle Thursday as the Lockport Lady Lions defeated visiting North Tonawanda, 19-4, earning their first win of the 2013 Niagara Frontier League softball season.
Krieger scattered eight hits, fanned two and walked two for head coach Julie Kwoka's Lady Lions (1-2 NFL). The Lady Jacks dropped to 0-3 in the NFL.
“She kept the ball down and we played well defensively behind her,” Kwoka said. “It was a little windy, but Jen was able to keep the ball down and get  lot of ground balls.”
The Lady Lions got an early-season nominee for Defensive Play of the Year in the top of the sixth inning. An NT batter smacked a triple and tried to stretch it into a home run, but a perfectly executed 8-to-4-to-3-to-2 relay (sophomore centerfielder Delaney Fragale to sophomore second baseman Angela Sammarco to sophomore first baseman Alyssa Wagner to senior catcher Kelly Anderson), cutting her down at the plate.
Offensively, the Lady Lions were led by senior Shannon Krywcun, who had three hits, scored three runs and drove home five runs. Sophomore Jordyn Kwoka and Anderson added three hits apiece. Wagner finished with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Next up, the Lady Lions play at Kenmore East at 4:45 p.m. today.

BARKER — Down by four in the bottom of the seventh, head coach Shannon McCracken's Lady Raiders scored five runs in their final at-bat to earn their first league victory of the season.
Junior catcher Brooke Targus' two-out, two-run single was the game-winner for Barker (1-2 N-O, 1-4). Brooke Bodine and Destiny Hillman got the inning started with base hits.
Hillman pitched six innings and scattered five hits with five strikeouts. Sophomore Kelsey Blackley fanned one in one inning of relief.
