Burke is state's top administrator

Just shy of two decades as Lockport's respected athletics director.

LOCKPORT —

Nineteen years after he started working here, New York has recognized Patrick M. Burke as something those around him have known all along — as the finest administrator in the state.
Burke, Lockport’s director of health, physical education and athletics for the past two decades, is the recipient of the 2013 Empire State Supervisors and Administrators Association’s Administrator of the Year Award, a most deserving honor, according to Lockport school’s superintendent Michelle Bradley, who described Pat as, “a devoted, tireless and highly-visible leader in our district and community.
“Pat serves humbly with his heart and with great faith in our students,” Bradley said. “I’m proud to work with Pat and thank him for representing the Lockport City School District so very well. This is another great example of what we want to be known for.”
A former basketball and baseball standout at LHS, Burke recently completed his 19th year as Lockport AD.
“Pat’s work ethic, knowledge of athletics and physical education and love of Lockport are all very impressive,” Bradley said. “Pat surely is a team player on the LCSD administrative team and shares the vision for expecting all students to be successful both in and out of the classroom.”
LHS coaches, including wrestling coach Joe Scapelliti, couldn’t agree more.
“Pat is the undisputed leader of our athletics program. He’s constantly serving as an advocate and role model for our kids and coaches alike,” Scapelliti said.
“His efforts to guide and support our programs in Lockport are a major reason for the success we’ve enjoyed across the board. In a time where districts are feeling the pinch of tight budgets, Pat’s been able to do more with less in an effort to keep our programs moving forward. Our district and community as a whole are lucky to have him.”
Burke and his wife, Becky, have three daughters, Bridgette, Lindsey and Andrea.
