David Fluellen signed by the Philadelphia Eagles

Lockport High School record holder lands in Philadelphia.

LOCKPORT —

David Fluellen’s advice to Lockport kids seven months ago certainly rings true this week: “Keep your dreams alive because you get what you put in. If you work hard and believe in yourself, it will happen,” he said.
Now, the most prolific rusher in the history of Lockport High School football, who went on to become one of the nation’s top collegiate rushers at Toledo, is about to take his talents to the highest level.
Lockport’s all-time leading rusher, Fluellen has signed a National Football League contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. Details have yet to be disclosed.
Fluellen, 22, the son of David Fluellen Sr. and Arletha Fluellen, is expected to be a solid third down running back or No. 2 guy for the Eagles.
The reaction throughout the city has been immediate and ecstatic over the past two days.
Fluellen’s football coach at LHS from the fall of 2007 to 2010, Greg Bronson, said he heard the news from his son, Daniel, off a tweet.
“David may be a little disappointed because he didn’t get drafted, but the fact that there’s a pro team interested in the things he can bring to them is exciting,” Bronson said.
“It’s a great opportunity for him and lot of things to like about it, because he used to live in Philadelphia and his mom still lives there.”
Lions assistant football coach Joe Scapelliti said he last spoke to Fluellen by phone a day before last week’s NFL Draft in New York City.
“I think David was ready for the end of the long process of getting to the point he was at,” Scapelliti said.
“It’s been a while and he worked really hard to put himself in that position. There was a lot of hope that he would get drafted, but obviously, that didn’t happen. But Philly came in as soon as the draft wrapped up and signed him. Philly’s a great fit for him, because it’s where he’s originally from and his mom still lives there.”
