Pin Lions swept by the Falcons

Wilkesmore rolls superb 217-612 in Lockport loss.

PENDLETON —

The young, but promising Lockport boys and girls bowling teams dropped their 2013-14 Niagara Frontier League openers to Niagara-Wheatfield on Tuesday at Brad Angelo Lanes.
The defending league-champion Falcons beat the Lions, 7-0, winning the pin count by 3,711 to 3,179
Collin Kitcho led the winners with a 246 single and 698 series.
Freshman Zach Wilkesmore topped head coach Marion Singleton’s Lions with a 217 single and 612 three-game set.
In girls action, the Lady Falcons slipped by the Lady Lions, 4-3, winning the pin count by a narrow 3,055 to 2,947 margin.
Marissa Staschak led the winners with a 246-632. Lockport was led by junior Lauren Pieroni with a 211 single and 596 series.
Singleton’s Lions were 5-9 in the NFL a year ago, while the Lady Lions were 11-3. Lockport’s girls finished tied for second with North Tonawanda in the league, while Niagara Falls took the 2012-13 NFL championship.
Key losses to graduation are NFL individual champion Kelly Masiello, a First Team All-NFL bowler and Brittany Wright, who’s still active in local bowling circles. Wright was a Second Team All-NFL bowler last year.
Freshman Jared Swift is one of the most promising blue and gold keglers this season. Other key returners on the boys side are sophomore John “J.J.” Ritz and freshmen Wilkesmore and Tyler Nolte.
Among the key returners on the Lady Lions’ roster are Pieroni and senior Katie Bars.
Rounding out the LHS boys roster are seniors Christopher Hermann and Ryan Lambert, junior Christopher Williamson, freshmen Ian Brant, John Pelletier and Zach Wilkesmore, eighth graders Thomas Loveric and Damien Mault; and seventh grader Brandon Pardee.
Rounding out the LHS girls roster are juniors Patricia Dudkowski, Melanie Fonner, Savannah King, Marisa Metzger and Samantha Walton; eighth graders Rebecca Albright and Jordan Hausler; and seventh graders Hannah Clayton, Samantha Jaeger, Aimee Jo Maskell, Alexia McDonald, Alexandria Ritz and Emily Swendsen.
