NCSD: Sheriff's department chief to retire

A longtime member of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department has announced his retirement effective Saturday.
Sheriff James Voutour announced Thursday that Administrative Division Chief Deputy John T. Taylor, who joined the department in 1972, will retire.
Taylor began his career at the department as a deputy and rose through the ranks to his current position, where he serves as third in command to the sheriff.
Taylor was first promoted to road sergeant in 1978, then to investigator in the juvenile aid bureau in 1984.
In January 1986, he was promoted to the rank of inspector, his first administrative role.
In a news release Thursday, Voutour praised Taylor’s 38 years of service.
Undersheriff Samuel Muscarella Jr. echoed Voutour’s sentiments, saying it has been his “pleasure” to serve alongside Taylor.
“Jack always remained committed to the sheriff’s office and to the citizens of Niagara County,” Muscarella said. “Jack was a truly dedicated public servant, and it was my privilege to work so closely with him all these years. He will be missed.”
A ceremony to mark Taylor’s retirement will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Building 2 entrance of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department office on Niagara Street Extension.
Sheriff’s department administration and members, along with local law enforcement officials, family and friends, will be on hand as a bagpiper and the department’s honor guard escort Taylor from the department.
Taylor’s successor will be named Saturday.
