A city teen was charged Wednesday with shooting a young boy in the leg with a BB gun as the boy rode his bike on South Street.
The boy told police he was riding his bike about 7 p.m. when he saw two teens, one of them he recognized as Davon L. Goins, 16, 83 South St., rear, walking toward him. Goins was reportedly wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.
As the boy rode by, he said he saw Goins pull out what appeared to be a black handgun. Goins allegedly pointed the gun at the boy and pulled the trigger.
The boy told police he heard the bang and saw the flash, then felt something hit his right leg. Though he was in pain, the boy said he was scared and kept riding his bike until he rounded the corner at Washburn Street.
Officers responded to the scene and saw a small mark on the boys right leg. The boy reportedly refused treatment at the scene.
He told officers he knew the suspect and provided Goins’ address.
Detective Warren Hale reportedly drove the boy to Goins’ home, and as they pulled up in front of the home, Goins and the other teen turned the corner onto South Street from Locust Street.
The boy reportedly yelled, “It’s them. It’s them! The one in the red is the one that shot me!”
Officers arrested Goins without incident, the report said. Neither teen reportedly had a weapon on them.
Goins was charged with second-degree menacing, second-degree attempted assault and discharging a BB gun within city limits.
He is being held in lieu of $1,000 bail.
