n North Tonawanda — Johnnie’s Bike Shop, Payne Avenue and Jackson Street.
n Wheatfield — American Legion Hall, Ward Road.
n Lewiston — Colonial Plaza (CVS plaza), Center Street, until 2 p.m. only.
n Youngstown — VFW Hall, Third Street.
Residents may donate items such as: new clothing, including pajamas, sweats, shorts, T-shirts, slippers, underclothes, socks, bathrobes and tear-away pants; toiletries, bath towels and wash cloths; hand-held games, DVDs, books, magazines and crossword puzzles; pre-paid phone cards for calls home; cash to purchase non-donated items; and cards and letters of support.
“This is a non-political event,” county Democratic Committee Chairman Dan Rivera said. “This is about supporting wounded vets.”
Jammies for GIs is a charity that amasses everyday goods for soldiers who are wounded overseas and face recovery time without basic goods, including clothes, grooming and simple leisure goods. It was founded by mothers of wounded soldiers who want to make them more comfortable while they are being treated.
