Four eastern Niagara school districts cracked the top 50 in Business First’s 2009 ranking of all 97 public school districts in Western New York.
Locally, Wilson was ranked 18th, followed by Barker at 20th, Starpoint at 26th and Newfane at 35th. Lockport came in at 51st, followed by Royalton-Hartland at 58th. The top-ranked district was Williamsville, and Lewiston-Porter was the highest ranked in Niagara County, at No. 11.
In addition, Business First ranked the districts by cost-effectiveness, overachievement (academic record despite poverty), administrative efficiency, socioeconomic climate, student access, teacher experience and pay. Locally, Wilson tied for 10th in overachievement, but no other district appeared in the top 10 for any category.
