WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM: Glendale Drive needs reliable lighting

TOWN OF LOCKPORT — Several street lamps on Glendale Drive are functioning erratically or not at all.

According to Glendale Drive resident Stu Cassenti, the problem began after NYSEG crews serviced the lights more than a year ago.

The street lamp at the northeast corner of the Glendale block hasn’t worked at all since a crew serviced it, Cassenti said, and the lamp at the northwest corner, in front of his house, doesn’t always come on at dusk as it’s supposed to.

“It’s a crapshoot whether it works tonight or not. It does what it wants,” he said.

Cassenti said he contacted NYSEG to request lamp service last summer. A crew came and changed the bulb, ,and the light hasn’t worked right since.

He’d grown resigned to the lamp’s quirkiness, and the lack of street lighting at the opposite corner, until a close incident last week caused him new concern. Cassenti said a couple of girls were walking on the street — since there are no sidewalks — when a car rounded the darkened corner and startled the girls.

What’s Your Problem contacted the NYSEG customer service center in Binghamton about the lamps Monday. A representative took the location of the lamps and the pole numbers and said the information will be forwarded to the Lockport NYSEG office for owner tracking.

If a homeowner’s association or the town have responsibility, they’ll be alerted to the problem, the NYSEG representative said; if the lamps are NYSEG property, the local office will initiate repair. The process likely will take a minimum two weeks, she advised.

Residents can initiate exam of malfunctioning street lights by calling the NYSEG service center at (800) 572-1131; or by filing a request online at www.nyseg.com. Helpful information for NYSEG includes the street address nearest the light, the pole number and pole location (example: two poles from the intersection of A Street and B Street).
