CITY OF LOCKPORT: Newfane man charged with DWI, leaving the scene

— City police arrested a Newfane man Monday afternoon after he was allegedly involved in a hit and run at Beattie and Lincoln avenues.
Louis J. Scinta, 45, 3043 Brown Road, was charged with driving while intoxicated, speeding, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, following too closely and having an open alcoholic beverage in a vehicle.
Officers were responded to Beattie and Lincoln for a report of a hit and run when Scinta’s pickup approached them, heading north on Waterman Street, the report said.
Scinta allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign, and the officer reportedly had to lock up the brakes in the patrol car to avoid a collision.
Officers attempted to stop the pickup, and Scinta allegedly sped up, then pulled over south of Genesee Street, the report said.
Scinta allegedly almost fell several times after getting out of his pickup. Officers reportedly decided it would be unsafe to have him perform field sobriety tests, because he could not stand up on his own.
Scinta allegedly refused to submit to a chemical test to determine blood alcohol level.
He was held in lieu of $500 bail and is due today in Lockport City Court.
