LOCKPORT — The Lockport Public Library’s 2012-13 budget has gotten the blessing of city school district voters, following a 211 to 44 vote Wednesday.
On the proposed $1.5 million budget, the library will need $1.3 million from the tax levy, a $32,127 or 2.44 percent increase from the current school year. The budget spending increases about $26,254 and will take effect July 1.
Other income sources for the Library include a share of funding allocated to the Nioga Library System from Niagara County, overdue fines and printing/copier fees, interest earned on deposits, donations, and State incentive aid.
The Library also receives some funding from the Towns of Pendleton and Lockport for those residents who use the library but who are not residents of the Lockport City School District.
The library’s annual “My Favorite Character” Kids Vote was on beloved dog characters. The winner was Clifford, the Big Red Dog, winning over Biscuit and Martha.
