Two clerks charged with underage sales

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Two store clerks — one in Newfane and one in Lewiston — face a pair of misdemeanor charges after they allegedly sold alcohol to underage operatives working for area and state law enforcement agencies.

During a five-hour period Thursday, the the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police and New York State Liquor Authority performed a joint underage alcohol enforcement detail throughout Niagara County.

According to the sheriff's office, a total of 21 convenience stores were checked between 5 and 10 p.m. by deputies, troopers, and State Liquor Authority agents utilizing underage operatives.

Almost every store successfully denied the underage operatives alcohol, but two allowed them to make alcohol purchases.

Arrested during this detail was Justin D. Ferington, 18, of Newfane, an employee of Kenyons on Lockport-Olcott Road in Newfane. Also arrested was Addison F. Hatcher, no age given, of Sanborn, an employee of Valero, Saunders Settlement Road in Sanborn.

Ferington is due in Newfane Town Court on April 15 and Hatcher is due in Lewiston Town Court on April 16.

Both were charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st degree and Prohibited Sales, which are both misdemeanors.
