Falls School Board, Ceretto lend support to Robert Moses Alternative 3

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — The Niagara Falls City School Board became the latest governing body to weigh in on the future of the Robert Moses Parkway north section Thursday.

Citing concerns over traffic which could affect two of its schools, the board followed many of the regional governments, including the Lewiston Village Board and the Niagara County Legislature, in unanimously supporting Alternative 3 for the future of the much-discussed roadway.

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation recently narrowed down its study of the road, selecting three alternatives from a list of six. Alternative 3 removes the parkway between Main Street and Findlay Drive in Niagara Falls and maintains the current roadway as it exists from Findlay Drive to Center Street in Lewiston.

State parks officials, meanwhile, are now looking to identify funding to complete design work and the environmental review needed to move the project forward.

Also last week, Assemblyman John Ceretto voiced his support for Alternative 3.

In a statement, Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) said Alternative 3 provides the best opportunity for the region to open the waterfront to economic development

Cerreto submitted a statement as part of the public comment period on the plan, which ended last week.

Ceretto’s statement reads:

“If properly utilized, the waterfront can be a major economic benefit to Niagara Falls. The Alternative 3 plan is the best way to promote economic development and meet the needs of the community.”

Opening up the waterfront would allow our residents and tourists to enjoy the beauty of the area and generate additional revenues and jobs that will benefit everyone living in Niagara Falls.”
