Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — The doors to a remodeled Aldi will open at 9 a.m. Friday.
The discount grocery, which is the only grocery store in the city of Lockport, has been closed since May 13 for exterior and interior updating.
Company Vice President Aaron Sumida said a "major remodel" is under way, involving mechanical upgrades, interior design changes and product layout improvements at the 601 S. Transit St. store. Ceilings are being raised, natural lighting is being increased and environmentally friendly building materials are being used, according to the company.
Similar construction is occurring simultaneously at the grocer's Cheektowaga location.
Both remodeled stores will be reopened with a Friday morning ribbon-cutting ceremony.
