Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — At-large Alderman Joseph C. Kibler has been appointed as Lockport Common Council president, Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey announced Monday.

Kibler replaces McCaffrey, who was sworn in as mayor Monday morning, succeeding Michael W. Tucker. Tucker resigned as mayor this past Friday.

“I believe that Joe Kibler’s experience, character and his ability to bring people together makes him uniquely qualified to lead the Common Council during this critical period in our city’s history," McCaffrey said in a written statement. “I look forward to working closely with ... Kibler in setting an action agenda which tackles the difficult financial matters facing our city, implementing much needed reforms and continuing crucial economic and tourism development projects in our community.”

Kibler is serving his seventh consecutive term as alderman-at-large and previously served as Common Council president during 2012. Kibler has served on all standing committees, presently chairs the Public Health and Safety committee, previously chaired the finance committee and is the Council's liaison to the Police Board.

“I would like to thank Mayor McCaffrey for placing her trust in me for this important role and I am eager to assist the mayor in addressing the serious challenges facing our city,” Kibler said in a press release.
