Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Lockport City Police are looking for a vehicle that fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident that occurred Saturday on Chestnut Street near Spring Street.
Police received a call at about 3:10 a.m. Saturday from a passerby who found the victim laying in the middle of the street on Chestnut. The pedestrian was found lying unconscious in the road, said Traffic Capt. Michael Niethe.
“We didn’t even know it was a car accident until we got there,” he said.
Niethe said officers found vehicle parts left at the scene, specifically a mirror from the passenger side of the vehicle. Other parts led investigators to believe the vehicle that fled the scene may be a red 2003 or 2004 Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle.
The victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo with non-life threatening injuries. Lockport firefighters responded and MercyFlight was called, but Saturday’s heavy winds prevented MercyFlight from taking off.
The victim’s condition was not available Tuesday, but the 27-year-old city man was conscious.
An investigation of the accident is continuing, Niethe said. The driver of the vehicle faces at least a charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, he said.
“We don’t know the direction of travel,” he said.
