Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — MIDDLEPORT — The old Mister Bill’s on South Vernon Street is on the verge of becoming a “nice little strip mall” in the heart of the village.
The Village Board this week gave unanimous approval to the site plan submitted by Dom Cilberto of Gasport.
“I plan to be ready for tenants as early as March,” Cilberto said.
Cilberto is planning to make three units out of the concrete block building, which hosted a convenience store until about four years ago.
“It’s pretty run down. Everything is gone inside the building,” he said.
With improvements, Cilberto sees potential in it for office, retail or restaurant business.
But, he said, “We’ll let Middleport decide what they want to put in there.”
Village board members welcomed his proposal.
“It takes a building that was out of service and obsolete and is going put it into a functional enterprise inside the village,” Mayor Richard Westcott said.
“I think it’s a great idea,” added Trustee Dennis J. McAvoy.
Cilberto’s family operates All Metal Works on Bolton Road in Gasport.
The next village board meeting will be held Jan. 21, a Tuesday. The day prior is Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday.Contact reporter Bill Wolcott at 439-9222, ext. 6246.
