Rock-and-blues 'Holiday Jam' set for Sunday

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Looking to add a little “jam” to your plate this holiday weekend?

The Winter Wonderland Project is hosting a Holiday Music Jam from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, featuring some prolific area musicians playing an evening of rock and blues.

The jam will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 71 Van Buren St. It will include Jason Moynihan, (sax/piano/guitar), Ray Barry (guitar/vocals) and Paul Yates (bass), all members of the Niagara Falls-based Chicago Blues Connection; Chuck DeRose, guitarist and vocalist for High Horse,” named the “Best Niagara Falls Band” in 2011 and 2012; and Dave Thurman of the Thurman Brothers Band and Brothers of Invention.

Moynihan has toured with Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Buddy Guy and has performed with the Rolling Stones, Robert Plant and the Dave Matthews Band.

Tom Masters, who organized the jam, knows the musicians personally.

“These guys are incredibly talented. They are as good as it gets,” he said.

Last year the Winter Wonderland Project organized four musical performances in four different venues, which Masters said was challenging to pull off.

“We figured this year we’d do just one performance and get some bigger acts,” he said.

Masters’ own band, Old Hat Revival, will make its public debut at the jam.

Coffee and other refreshments will be served. Like all Winter Wonderland activities, the event is free.
