Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — The Town of Lockport will host a public informational meeting concerning the Safe Routes to School sidewalk project at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at the hall, 6560 Dysinger Road.
Last year, the city school district, along with the city and town of Lockport, were the recipients of a $570,219 Safe Routes To School grant. The money will be used to install sidewalks in areas near school building in the town and city.
Sidewalks will be installed at four locations:
• George Southard Elementary School on Locust Street Extension. About 1,743 feet of sidewalks will be installed on Locust Street from O’Connor Drive to the existing asphalt trail to the south.
• Roy B. Kelley Elementary School on East High Street. About 2,130 feet of sidewalks will be installed on East High Street from Day Road to Davison Road.
• Emmet Belknap Intermediate School on High Street. Roughly 890 feet of sidewalks will be installed on Hi Point Drive from the asphalt trail to the Willow Street intersection.
• North Park Junior High School on Passaic Avenue. Roughly 475 feet of sidewalks will be installed on Corinthia Street from Trowbridge Street to Passaic Avenue.
A preliminary design has been conducted by Wendel, the firm serving as engineering consultant on the project. Information about the project, as well as a copy of the Draft Design Report, will be available to the public at the meeting. The report is available at the town hall prior to the meeting.
People will have a chance for questions and comments about the project. They may also file written statements with questions or comments to Wendel by Feb. 17.
