Kitchen fire sends Newfane homeowner to hospital

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A kitchen fire in a Town of Newfane home early Sunday sent the homeowner to the hospital with smoke inhalation, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire at 6536 Drake Settlement Road was reported at 2:48 a.m. Monday, deputies said. Fire companies from Miller Hose and Olcott responded.

Everyone got out of the house safely, emergency responders said. A deputy reported seeing heavy smoke inside the kitchen and a fire burning above the microwave area.

The unidentified homeowner was transported by Olcott Fire ambulance to Eastern Niagara-Newfane Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, the Sheriff’s Office said. Niagara County Cause and Origin are investigating the cause of the fire.

No other injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $25,000.
