Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — WILSON — Gary Darnell defeated James Madan in a narrow victory for the position of village of Wilson trustee Tuesday.
With the backing of Wilson's Conservative party, Darnell received a total of 176 votes to Madan's 173 total votes from the Republican and Democratic parties.
Darnell, 52, has over 30 years experience with both the New York National Guard the Wilson No. 1 Volunteer Fire Company.
Darnell said that during his four-year term as trustee, he will try to work with the town and school district boards to develop strategies to save taxpayer dollars.
“It's not just about the village, it's about the community as a whole,” Darnell said.
In the village of Barker's Tuesday election for two unopposed candidates, Janice Rider received nine votes and Kimberly Ruffini received 12.
In the village of Middleport, trustee Thomas C. Conley received a total of 49 votes, with 44 being walk-in votes and five being absentee ballots. Trustee Dennis J. McAvoy received a total of 47 votes, with 41 being walk-in votes and six being absentee ballots. Village resident Jeff Waters received 23 write-in votes, and Trustee Rebecca Hinkson received one absentee ballot. Conley and McAvoy were both up for election, and were both running unopposed.
