A man found his hunting buddy dead in the woods Saturday evening in Ransomville, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
The deceased man’s name is withheld pending notification of his family. The sheriff’s office did not suggest a cause of death, although it said in a 9:55 p.m. Saturday media release that the death “does not appear suspicious at this time.”
The sheriff’s office was alerted to a missing person around 6:30 p.m. when a male caller indicated he could not find his hunting partner in the area of Youngstown-Wilson and Ransomville roads. The partner had been missing for about two hours, the caller said.
County central dispatch used 911 GPS technology to determine that the last signal from the missing man’s cell phone was south of 2408 Youngstown-Wilson Road. As county and state police and Ransomville fire company volunteers began to search for the missing man, about 7 p.m., his partner called again to say he’d found him, apparently dead.
First responders found the missing hunter about 1,000 feet from the road and verified that he was deceased, the sheriff’s office said.
