Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Lockport High School wants the community to take part of its annual Homecoming festivities, which will be held all next week.
The school will hold a pep rally from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the West Gym, in lieu of a typical assembly held in the middle of the school day.
And there’s a few reasons for that, said Assistant Principal Todd Sukdolak.
“We’d lose a day (of instruction),” he said. “It allows the community to attend. We’ve also been sending flyers to our other buildings, to encourage younger students and their parents to come and see what it’s about.”
Aside from the rally, there will be a Homecoming parade on Oct. 12. Students will be putting together floats right up until the start of the parade at 1 p.m.
The parade will start at the school on Lincoln Avenue, then continue down Pine Street, along Walnut then Locust streets, before turning onto High Street and ending at Emmet Belknap Intermediate School.
City residents are encouraged to show off their Lockport Lions signs and apparel. Having community support is important, as is inviting younger students to be a part of Homecoming, said student Sarah Quirk.
“They’re going to come here one day, it’ll get them excited,” she said.
The homecoming football game will take place at 2 p.m. at Emmet, featuring the Lions against Kenmore West Blue Devils. The Lions are currently 2-2 and play at Clarence this Saturday.
A homecoming dance will follow the Homecoming game, running from 7 until 10 p.m. Oct. 12.
Each day next week will have a different Homecoming theme for students. Monday is America Day, Tuesday is Decade Day and Wednesday is Class Color Day. That day, students wear colors corresponding to their respective classes, as freshman will wear black, sophomores wear orange, juniors will wear red and seniors green.
The week finishes with Jungle/Safari/Camo Day on Thursday and Blue and Gold Day on Friday. That’s school spirit day, as blue and gold are Lockport High School’s colors.
Classes will also be decorating doors and hallways.
