Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Lockport Public Library will be closed on Saturdays during July and August.

Reduced summer hours are a cost-saving measure, according to library Director Beverly Federspiel. The Monday-through-Friday only schedule was in effect during the summer of 2012 as well.

Also during the summer, beginning next week, the library will be closed at 4 p.m. on Fridays, instead of 5 p.m. The book drop box at the back of the facility will be locked from 4 p.m. Friday until 8:30 a.m. Saturday, meaning library materials can’t be returned.

Early library closing on Fridays will occur simultaneously with the Labatt Canal Concert Series, which is being staged in the city parking lot behind the library and Lockport Family YMCA on Fridays between June 28 and Aug. 16. The parking area behind the library will be closed at 3 p.m. on concert days.

To reduce the inconveniences to library patrons, Federspiel said, library material due dates will not fall on Fridays or Saturdays while the reductions are in effect.
