Man flown to ECMC after wild accident

WILSON — A sensational accident overnight in the Town of WIlson sent a 19-year-old Town of Newfane man to Erie County Medical Center via Mercy Flight for treatment of head and arm injuries.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded at 3:48 a.m. Friday to a one vehicle injury accident at the intersection of Cambria-Wilson and German Roads.

The investigation revealed that a pickup truck heading northbound on Cambria-Wilson Road left the west side of the roadway and entered a ditch then struck a culvert, causing it to become airborne.

The vehicle then landed in a yard at 3848 Cambria-Wilson Road before overturning and continued in a northerly direction, sliding across German Road, before coming to rest on its driver's side on the north side shoulder of German Road.

According to the report the driver, who was the truck's sole occupant, said he had swerved to avoid striking an animal.

Firefighters from the South Wilson and Wilson fire districts extricated the man from the vehicle.
