City firefighters battle smoky blaze

LOCKPORT —

Fire broke out inside a home at 163 South St., near Washburn St. on Thursday afternoon, causing the occupants to flee into the street.

Lockport city firefighters were still battling the blaze as of 4 p.m. The fire was reported just after 3 p.m.

Flames were breaking through the west side of the structure as firefighters battled the flames from inside.

All occupants were reported to have safely escaped.

A portion of South Street and Washburn Street were blocked to traffic by Lockport police.

The cause of the fire has not been reported. Additional details will be available later tonight at www.lockportjournal.com.
