Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — WILLIAMSVILLE –– Tops Markets has donated $180,000 to Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.
Representatives from Tops Markets presented a check Tuesday to the hospital in support of cancer research and patient support programs. The funds were raised at the fifth annual Tops 5K and 10K Family Walk Run, held back in August.
About 1,300 runners and walkers participated in this year’s event, the highest total ever, Tops officials said. The Tops 5K and 10K is a family friendly event held each summer in Williamsville to raise funds through Roswell Park’s Team Cure Challenge program.
“The generosity of Tops, the sponsors and all the participants makes the Tops 5K/10K one of the most rewarding events for us at Roswell Park,” Roswell Park President and CEO Dr. Donald L. Trump said. “This important donation helps fund cutting-edge cancer research and compassionate, innovative patient care in our ongoing effort to find cures and save lives. On behalf of our 31,000 active patients and our dedicated scientists and physicians, thank you for this very generous gift.”
“We believe in the innovative research being done by our neighbors at Roswell,” Tops president and CEO Frank Curci said. “Cancer touches the lives of everyone and annually, we encourage our own associates, community members and business partners to join us in supporting the mission of Roswell Park.”
Tops Markets has donated more than $1 million to the hospital through various programs and fundraising events. Besides the annual 5K and 10K, those events include the Paint Box Project, the Bosom Buddies Walk, Carly’s Club and All-Star Night.
