Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —
The Newfane Town Board approved a $7 million budget for 2014 last Tuesday.
The budget will keep most tax rates steady, except for a slight increase in refuse fees.
Refuse fees will increase by $5 per unit, to $189 per unit, due to the new recycling containers the town will be purchasing for residents. Recycling pickup will switch to bi-weekly for February. Rates will remain steady for the lighting district at 19 cents per $1,000 assessed property value, fire protection district at $1.69 per $1,000 of assessed value, the water district at $25 per unit, and the sewer district at $285 per unit.
Total spending is up $30,000 from 2013. The tax levy remains steady at $2.2 million.
