LOCKPORT —

The opening concert of the 2013 Labatt Canal Concert Series scheduled for tonight has been canceled due to an unspecified illness of a member of the headlining act, Puddle of Mudd, according to concert promoters.

Wes Scantlin, the lead singer for the band, was also responsible for the cancelation of a Thursday night show in Rochester, according to cityofrochester.gov.

"Windstream Party in the Park concert with Puddle of Mudd scheduled for June 27, 2013 has been cancelled," the website said, adding "A flight cancellation prevented the lead singer from arriving in Rochester."

Scantlin has had other problems of late, as well. In May, Scantlin was arrested on domestic abuse charges. Police were called to a business in West Hollywood after Scantlin apparently dragged his ex-wife and then pulled her by the arm or the shirt.

Puddle of Mudd's most famous song is "She Hates Me."

The band's twitter page has been somewhat quiet. Their last tweet was June 6 about a concert in New Jersey scheduled for September.

The promoter of the Labatt Canal Concert Series said Thursday night that an additional date would be added to the series to make up for the cancellation. A national act yet to be determined will headline that Aug. 23rd show.

There was no word on whether tonight's opening acts — The Balconies, Melia and Whiskey Reverb — would be part of the Aug. 23 show or added to other shows, but Whiskey Reverb was suggesting on their Facebook page that they'd still be able to headline a show tonight.

Concert promoters did not respond to the band's offer. Nor did they comment on the many requests by the band's fans on the series' Facebook page.

The Buffalo-based band which won the Hard Rock Rising contest is still slated to play at the Tuscarora Inn tonight, according to the band's drummer, Scott Harrington.

The Balconies said via their Twitter account that they're sorry not to be able to play tonight, adding "We promise to be back soon! XO."

The Labatt Canal Concert Series will open next week with national recording artists Theory of a Deadman. The series also features a performance from “Dancing with the Stars” winner Kellie Pickler, who is scheduled to perform in Lockport on Aug. 9.

Fans who purchased VIP tickets for the Puddle of Mudd show will be able to obtain refunds via PayPal, concert promoters said Thursday night.
