Lockport Union-Sun & Journal —
The body of a missing woman was found in the Erie Canal on Monday morning, according to Lockport Police Department.
LPD fielded a missing person report Sunday afternoon, concerning a 50-year-old woman from the city. Her vehicle had been found by family members alongside the canal near the Canal Road bridge, according to Detective Capt. Brian Wentland.
After a bloodhound from the Niagara County Sheriff's Office tracked the woman from her vehicle to the water, LPD deployed its boat and searched the canal unsuccessfully for several hours Sunday.
The search continued this morning and a state police dive team located the body in the canal near the Canal Road bridge, about noon time, according to Wentland.
The woman's name is withheld by police pending notification of survivors and an autopsy. No foul play is suspected, Wentland said.
