Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — The Lockport Police Department promoted Patrolman Adam Piedmont to the rank of lieutenant on Friday.

Piedmont, a seven-year veteran of the department, was promoted in front of his family and special guests during a ceremony in the council chambers at the city municipal building.

"He has rendered good and faithful service to the citizens of Lockport and his fellow police officers," Chief of Police Larry Eggert said.

Piedmont is continuing a family tradition of law enforcement. Among those in attendance Friday were his father Donald, a retired Niagara County Sheriff's Deputy; his grandfather, retired Niagara County Undersheriff James Faery; and retired Niagara County Sheriff's Investigator Lou Farey, his uncle.

Lt. Piedmont's wife, Hilliary and mother Fran were also on hand for the ceremony, along with Mayor Michael Tucker and Councilman Joe Kibler.

Eggert said the department plans to host similar ceremonies for promotions in the future. He noted that there was little fanfare in the past when officers moved up in the ranks. A ceremony provides some public recognition for an officer's accomplishments.

Piedmont is a member of the Lockport Police Department's Honor Guard and serves as an intelligence officer. He's also certified as a field training officer, which enables him to train and mentor new police officers.

A 1991 graduate of Wilson High School, Piedmont attended the State University of New York at Brockport and the Commuity College of the Air Force.

Piedmont has served the United States for the past 14 years as a member of the 107th Security Forces Squadron of the New York National Guard, where he has reached the rank of Sergeant.

His Guard service has included numerous overseas deployments, with an extended tour of duty in Iraq during the second Gulf War. His military commendations include the Meritorious Service Medal, USAF Commendation Medal, USAF Achievement Medal and the New York State Commendation Medal.
