Washburn Street closed for sewer work

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Washburn Street between Walnut Street and East Avenue was closed Thursday for sewer repairs.

Roto Rooter is doing the job for Family Video with a permit from the city, according to Dale Lawson, city water supervisor. Lawson said the street may be closed for a few days.

“The contractors are doing the repair on the sewer for Family Video,” Lawson said. “I don’t know how long it will be closed up. The contractors are in charge of all their own detouring.”

The sewer was broken and backing up. The building inspector was consulted. Roto Rooter employees on the job would not comment on the project.

According to a Family Video employee, the sewer backing up has been a problem for quite awhile. Family Video, which is on East Avenue, had to get a permit.

Roto Rooter has put a hole the size of a desk in the middle of Washburn Street and Route 31 traffic has been diverted.
