Merry Christmas to all

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — From Thanksgiving to the new year, it’s like a bit o’ Vegas on the north end.

For a second year, 305 Ontario St. is all decked out in colorful lights, blinking to the beats of Christmas.

Let-it-snow-let-it-snow-let-it-snow ...

The charming display is the work of Adam and Amanda Clime Newman, a twenty-something couple who say it’s for all the kids out there — including them.

“My husband is nuts,” Amanda says with a laugh. “Knock on wood, so far, our neighbors haven’t complained.”

This year Adam is using a transmitter and FM radio frequency 88.1  to “connect” the lights and music. Passersby can tune in to that blank station to hear the sound or, if they don’t have a radio, just enjoy the lights.

It’s the couple’s way of not pushing their luck with those who don’t want to hear Christmas music every night, according to Adam. Last year, the first time he put up the synchronized display, he piped music outside through a speaker from roughly 6 to 10 p.m. and hoped no one would object.

As it turned out, “everybody’s pretty lenient with us,” he said, “but for those who maybe would like a break, we switched to radio.”

The display includes a couple of steadily lit characters in the front yard and an animated Santa projected atop the front porch. So far, it has drawn all positive attention, Amanda said.

To the Newmans’ delight, passersby honk appreciation from their moving vehicles, and pedestrians stop to take pictures and video, pretty regularly. One night last year Amanda looked out a front window and saw kids dancing in her front yard. A neighbor across Ontario Street reportedly placed a mirror on her bedroom wall, opposite a window overlooking the street, to be able to take in the show while relaxing.
