Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — NEWFANE - Two Newfane residents are receiving help following a Friday evening fire that extensively damaged their home.
Miller Hose, Olcott and Wrights Corners Fire Cos. were called in for a house fire on the 2300 block of Lockport-Olcott Road at about 6:24 p.m. Friday. The two people were the only ones inside the house and both were evacuated safely, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office reported.
No damage estimate was available Friday night, but the house was “extensively damaged,” deputies reported.
Lockport-Olcott Road was blocked off from Drake Settlement down to Ide Road for over an hour.
A Dale Road man was driving by the home when he saw the flames, deputies said. The man reported he stopped to make sure everyone was out of the house. A small bush and bird feeder at a neighbor’s house next door caught fire, but was put out by the Dale Road man.
Deputies spoke with a 28-year-old man who lived in the house. The man reported when he got out of the shower he heard his dogs barking and went downstairs to check on them. When he got downstairs there was smoke in the residence and he saw the porch on fire.
He then alerted a 38-year-old woman who also lived at the house about the fire. Both told deputies they were just on their way out at the time they saw the fire.
Authorities said the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Niagara County Fire Investigators. The American Red Cross is assisting the victims.
